How Smart Meters Affect Your Body (Dr. Darren Schmidt)

Despite hundreds of thousands of people experiencing negative health effects following “smart” meter installation, there have been no health studies undertaken by any regulatory agency to demonstrate safety, prior to mass deployment upon populations around the globe.  This is rather astonishing, when one considers that there are thousands of published studies which do show clear health risks to this type of chronic microwave radiation exposure.

In this total absence of regulatory responsibility, Dr. Darren Schmidt of The Nutritional Healing Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan visually summarizes real-world data now being collected on negative health effects caused by installed “smart” meters.  Data and charts are both from his own patients’ experiences and lab work; and the work of other independent researchers. The first 10 minutes are foundational information, then specific effects on humans are shown.

Wireless Industry’s Patented System to Reduce Cancer Risk from Wireless Local Networks Never Adopted

A major telecom company patented a system to reduce “electrosmog” from wireless local networks to reduce cancer risks associated with non-thermal exposures to microwave radiation. The industry has known the risks for many years but has failed to act.

This patent application acknowledged the cancer risk from exposure to wireless radiation eight years before the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer declared that radiofrequency energy, including cell phone and Wi-Fi radiation, is a “possible carcinogen” to humans, like DDT and lead.

Furthermore, the application acknowledged that low-intensity, non-thermal exposures to wireless radiation is genotoxic. This is critical because the current U.S. regulatory standard for wireless radiation, established in 1996, does not protect us from non-thermal exposures.

News Flash – Legal acknowledgement of the condition of EHS and compensation in Australia

In Melbourne, and for the first time in Australia, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal of the Australian Federal Court has provided legal recognition of the health effects of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) also known as electromagnetic frequencies (EMF).

In a workplace compensation case, handed down on 28 February 2013, the Tribunal found that Dr Alexander McDonald, suffered a workplace injury of a worsening of his sensitivity to EMR, as a result of him being required, by his employer (CSIRO), to trial the use of electronic equipment.

Wireless technology: “It’s impossible to be completely sure there isn’t some risk” – ARPANSA

Hon. Minister Michael O’Brien, Victoria’s Minister for Energy and Resources, continually claims that smart meters are safe, that there is no risk with this wireless technology, that they are just as safe as mobile phones, cordless phones, Wi-Fi and baby monitors.  Yet the Federal Government’s Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) states that wireless technology is so new that “it’s impossible to be completely sure there isn’t some risk” (Fact Sheet 14”).

In claiming that smart meters are completely safe, perhaps Minister O’Brien knows more than the scientists at ARPANSA, and perhaps he even knows more than medical doctors who have warned patients not to have a smart meter installed.  We were unaware that Minister O’Brien has a science and medical background!

ARPANSA has recommended that children limit their exposure of electromagnetic emissions, advising, for example, baby monitors to be kept a metre away from cots and that “schools give priority to locating Wi-Fi points so they are not unnecessarily close to some children.” Yet the Victorian Government insists that smart meters, often attached to people’s bedroom walls, be installed at every home in Victoria, even aginst people’s will.

As opposed to mobile phones, Wi-Fi etc, smart meters can emit continual powerful bursts of radiation every few seconds 24 hours a day – and cannot be turned off.  When will Minister O’Brien acknowledge that microwave radiation emitted from smart meters can be harmful to humans, especially children?  Or is he more concerned with the mighty $ rather than people’s health?

At least other states in Australia offer smart meters on a voluntary basis.  Why not Victoria?

What is it about smart meters that I believe is making me very sick with headaches and nausea ?

Walking through Melbourne’s CBD today with EMR reader, I could see that the city is being absolutely irradiated with blankets of Electromagnetic Radiation from microwaves. This would be from many transmitting sources (all having their own transmitting frequencies) such as wi-fi, mobile phones etc. etc…..and maybe even smart meters if they have been installed in the CBD (I’m not sure). Every second person is now walking the CBD streets with a cell phone device of some type or other. My meter kicked up it’s radiation reading whenever I walked past or stood next to someone using a mobile device. So there is not just exposure to passive smoking but now definitely passive exposure to microwave radiation. Just casually walking the streets, readings of 1 milliwatt/m2, 2 milliwatt/m2, 5 milliwatt/m2 were constantly appearing on my meter with occasional higher readings of 12 milliwatt/m2 and 32 milliwatt/m2. So it led me to consider what is it about smart meters that would make it different to what I would be exposed to just walking through the CBD. What is it about smart meters that I believe is making me very sick with headaches and nausea ?

1. EMR exposure from smart meter transmissions are not constant but of a pulsed nature ie. short sharp strong bursts of wireless transmissions lasting a fraction of a second but repeated over and over again all day long. The exposure is in CONTINUOUS REPETITIVE BURSTS.

2. Smart meter exposure is continuous over the long-term (effectively forever), it NEVER STOPS, there is no respite whilst still living in your house and whilst still living in the state of Victoria

3. Exposure occurs at night time when we are meant to be sleeping and the brain’s pineal gland is meant to perform a host of different functions that are most important to the way we function. One such function I believe is the production of the hormone Melatonin which assists us to maintain our body clock and to sleep properly. It is also acts as a very effective antioxidant (cancer prevention). For the many other benefits of healthy Melatonin production see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin#Antioxidant
The exposure to microwave pulsing especially at night time can throw this functionality totally out of whack for some people causing all sorts of problems

4. The EMR exposure levels that one is exposed to all come from a source having it’s own transmission frequency. Smart meter wireless microwave communications have their own UNIQUE transmitting frequencies that differ depending on the type communication ie. wire mesh network communications or transmissions back to base or possibly some other functions We may be talking about 900 Mhz and 2.4 Ghz and possibly some other transmitting frequency…..maybe.
The human brain and the nerves (ie. the neurological system) is an electrical system and even the human heart is reliant on this electrical system to stimulate it’s beating correctly. A pacemaker is in fact an electrical device to perform the functionality that the body’s own electrical system may no longer be doing. Smart meter frequencies specifically will have their own unique way of engaging activity in the neurological system of particular individuals in a detrimental way.

5. Considering the four points above one can see that it is erroneous to try to quantify the harm done by a smart meter purely by the strength (power density) of the EMR exposure. The statement used by the government representative bodies that the meters are safe because they are within standards is totally absurd and meaningless. Firstly the standards referred to are ridiculously high (they are actually cooking standards ie. body heating effects) Brain cancers are not a heating effect

6. In considering the first 4 points above, it makes sense that each individual will have their own limits to what they can be exposed to in this manner (it’s not just about signal strength) before they demonstrate ill effects. Thus it is understandable that some individuals would show immediate ill effects to smart meter transmissions exposures and others would appear not to.

Electrosensitivity is very real. The fact that people appear to react differently when exposed to wireless communications from smart meters only supports the legitimacy of electrosensitivity as a genuine condition.

Conflict of interest?

When you look at Mr Michael O’Brien’s Parliamentary website, see: http://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/members/id/1660 you will notice that he is the Victorian Minister For Gaming, as well as for CONSUMER AFFAIRS and also for ENERGY and RESOURCES.

Now it does not take a genius, in my opinion, to work out that he should not hold the office of Minister for Consumer Affairs at the same time as also being the Minister for Energy and Resources, as these two portfolios are in my opinion are……………………… A CONFLICT OF INTEREST or in conflict with each other.

As he is also Minister for Consumer Affairs and mounting numbers of people want to get rid of these now proving to be poisonous microwave smart meters, people should complain to Mr Michael O’Brien that they want to be rid of these so-called smart meters and have the safe analogue electric meters returned to them at no cost.  If Mr Michael O’Brien were doing his job as he should, he would support these now mounting numbers of highly aggrieved electricity customers.   As he refuses to support these Victorian customers in getting rid of the microwave smart meters. as the Minister for Consumer Affairs, he is IN CONFLICT with these two portfolios he is running. Therefore he is openly supporting a CONFLICT OF INTEREST in my humble opinion.

Not very smart | Star Dandenong News

CITY of Greater Dandenong is continuing a campaign against smart meters, despite legal advice that they can’t stop them from being installed.

At their Monday 25 February meeting, councillors agreed to find out what it would cost to have electromagnetic and radiation measurements taken at the five council sites with smart meters.

Paperbark Ward councillor Peter Brown moved the motion and asked for it to return to a council meeting no later than May.

“This is asking for a costing before we hit the go button,” he said.

Councillors also voted, by a narrow margin, for Mayor Angela Long to tell Energy Minister Michael O’Brien the council opposed smart meters “because of environmental and human health and safety concerns and supports the rights of residents to opt out of smart meter installation”.

The letter to Mr O’Brien will also ask him “to be guided by precautionary principles in his decision-making” and improve communication on the roll-out to Greater Dandenong residents and ratepayers.

Councillors received requests from residents to stop digital smart meter installation because of concerns about their health and safety impacts.

In September this prompted the council to formally register its opposition to smart meters and commit to supporting a proposed class action against the roll-out through the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV).

When this proposal was defeated, the council sought advice on running its own class action but was told it would be very expensive and unlikely to succeed.

So in December the council sought legal advice on its right to refuse smart meters on its property.

“Council is going to provide leadership in this matter,” Cr Brown said.

“Is this an electrical form of asbestos?”

But advice from solicitors was that the council could not opt out of the roll-out.

The distribution company is required to use its “best endeavours” to install smart meters and customers, including the council, must provide free and unrestricted access to metering equipment or risk having their electricity disconnected.

A Department of Primary Industries (DPI) spokesman said digital smart meters recorded electricity usage and automatically sent data to suppliers.

“Victorians can be confident that smart meters are safe, and Victoria’s chief health officer has confirmed this,” he said.

“The communications system associated with smart meters involves lower electromagnetic exposures than many other household devices, such as mobile phones and baby monitors.”
