Have you received a letter from your energy retailer telling you that a smart meter will be installed in your home, presenting it as a done deal?
It is not a done deal. You have rights you have not been told about. There are legal instruments available to you that the energy industry would prefer you did not know existed. There is a documented evidentiary record that the regulatory process behind this mandate was conducted without the independent safety review it was legally required to perform.
An anonymous contributor has provided SSMA with a Smart Meter Defence Template Suite that clearly sets out what you need to do in order to prevent installation of a smart meter, communicating or otherwise, without your explicit consent. It consists of a plain-language guide, which you need to read first, and two formal legal documents, which you need to serve at the same time, to the same address and by the same method.
The three documents that you will need are available at the following links:
1. Smart meter defence guide (read this PDF first)
Then download the following two Word documents:
2. Smart Meter Formal Objection and Default Notice (Template v3)
3. Conditional Acceptance Notice (CAN) template
Please share widely!

All docs work properly.
All three docs, the 2 x docx and 1 x pdf, are downloading fine.
Hi
The smart meters were installed many years ago.
What smart meters are you referring to? Are there new ones being installed?
Loving the resources. Thank you.
Kind regards
Connie
I have spent hours on the phone, multiple times and given the run-around. Told I need to talk to Ausgrid, then told I need to talk to the Australian Energy Regulator only to be pointed back to my energy provider, Energy Australia! I have spoken to them 3 times to no avail, being told that my address has now been classified as a “one in all in” in a block of 3 villas! They have basically told me I have no say and they are coming tomorrow! I downloaded the Word Documents, but I wasn’t able to edit them, so I’ve tried doing a copy and paste, but I’m totally confused by it all and completely overwhelmed! I’m feeling so disempowered and like I don’t have a say, even though I DO NOT CONSENT! Please help! I fear it is too late.
Energy Australia should be ashamed of itself. How dare they treat customers like this. Stand your ground. Plaster up signs. Handwrite if needs be. If your meter is in a box that can be safely locked, do it.

Have you checked your Downloads folder? They should be in there.

This information would have been helpful several months ago if received before the installation of the meter there has been significant rollouts in Brisbane. Now that it is already installed, the only helpful information would be how to get it removed.
AT least you have the right to ask for the communications to be removed whenever you like. We don’t even have that right in Victoria!!!
I consented to them installing it and they will come tomorrow morning, what to do now?
Tell them you are withdrawing your consent!
Great work! I also used the form that Warrior at Law have.
I was able to successfully get Jemena to back-down with a simple email after they posted letters and sent a technician around to replace my meter a couple of months ago.
