U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) request public comment on health effects of RF radiation

Two different U.S. Federal agencies have taken the unprecedented step of seeking public input on the potential adverse health and environmental effects of radiofrequency (RF) radiation.

The Environmental Health Trust notes that, ‘It has taken years of legal efforts to bring us to this point of federal agencies requesting input and scientific evidence’.

US law firm BBK states that the FCC’s request for comment is ‘carefully crafted’ to focus on targeted issues to discharge the earlier court’s remand. The FCC emphasises its intent to prioritise ‘quality of submissions over their quantity’ and invites comments from ‘local, state, federal, and international health and safety agencies, science-based standard-setting organisations that are active in this area, and other interested parties’.

However, HHS, which is now led by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was a co-founder of the Children’s Health Defense, has issued a much broader request on RF emissions exposure issues.

Children’s Health Defense states, ‘For too long, questions about the health and environmental effects of RF radiation have largely been addressed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), an agency responsible for regulating communications technology and spectrum, rather than through HHS, the federal health agency with expertise in medicine, biology and public health. Now HHS wants to hear from you!’

Australians can also submit comment to both agencies. The same submission can be lodged with BOTH agencies.

As the Environmental Health Trust says, ‘This is an important opportunity to submit scientific evidence, share experiences, and call for stronger public health protections; your participation can help bring additional research and public concerns into the record’.

As we all know, the flaccid RF policy and regulatory framework in Australia takes its cues from overseas, so let’s help drive the agenda.

Comments for HHS are due 21 October 2026.

Comments for FCC are due 22 October 2026.
