Smart meters ‘make us sick’ claim – News – Gippsland Times

FOR most visitors, the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia’s 26th Anniversary Rally which has descended on Sale the past week has been a chance to relax, socialize and take in some local sights.

But for a Mt Eliza couple, it has been a chance to escape what they say has become a nightmare.

Vic and Rosemary Trudeau say they were forced out of their house six months ago because of health problems which they blame on a smart meter.

After they had solar panels fitted, a smart meter was installed, and they say that’s when their problems began.

Within days Rosemary said she began feeling irritable and had a “ringing” sensation in her head.

When she left the home, the symptoms disappeared, re-appearing when she returned.“I’d never had any problems before, and I’d lived in the house 22 years,” she said.

Between them they have reported symptoms such as the high-pitched ringing in their heads, nausea, headaches, cognitive difficulties including difficulties concentrating, heart palpitations and insomnia.“Vic goes deaf when we go home; it takes him about three days to get his hearing back after we leave,” Rosemary said.

Rosemary has a doctor’s certificate stating she is sensitive to electromagnetic radiation and had been suffering severe health problems since the smart meter’s installation.

The doctor requested that the smart meter be immediately removed to “minimise any permanent impairment this may cause to her health”.The couple asked the power company which installed the device to remove it, but they said it’s all operating to Australian standards, and there’s nothing they can do.

The Trudeaus have also contacted the Victorian Energy Ombudsman to try and resolve the issue.“We wasted five months of our time,” Rosemary said.

Testing was carried out, but she said the ombudsman had declined to say what tests were carried out or divulge the results.

They were given three options: To have the main fuse pulled to the house, to have the smart meter removed at their expense they would no longer be connected to the grid or to sell the house and move interstate.

In addition, the couple said since the smart meter had been installed, appliances had been failing, including their refrigerator, computer monitor and telephone.“About eight have died and others are mucking up,” Rosemary said.

The Trudeaus say the compulsory installation of smart meters is not fair because there are no options for those who are sensitive.

The State Government plans to have them installed in every home and business by the end of next year.

Environmental Physicians Issue Stern Warning on Biological and Health Effects from Electromagnetic Field Exposures

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) issued a position paper on “Electromagnetic and Radiofrequency Field Effect on Human Health,” including wireless technologies and smart meters.

The report on electromagnetic fields takes a strong stand that society must acknowledge the biological effects of electromagnetic fields, educate the population about the risks from wireless technologies, and develop safer technologies. The group, AAEM, is an international association of physicians and professionals that has been dedicated to expanding the knowledge of human health in relationship to the environment since 1965, They have been first to recognize many conditions, including Gulf War Syndrome, chemical sensitivity and the role of mold in the development of systemic illness.

In its new report, “Electromagnetic and Radiofrequency Fields Effect on Human Health,” AAEM is calling for:

  1. An immediate caution on Smart Meter installation due to potentially harmful RF exposure.
  2. Accommodation for health considerations regarding EMF and RF exposure, including exposure to wireless Smart Meter technology.
  3. Independent studies to further understand the health effects from EMF and RF exposure.
  4. Recognition that electromagnetic hypersensitivity is a growing problem worldwide.
  5. Understanding and control of this electrical environmental bombardment for the protection of society.
  6. Consideration and independent research regarding the quantum effects of EMF and RF on human health.
  7. Use of safer technology, including for Smart Meters, such as hard-wiring, fiber optics or other non-harmful methods of data transmission.

The report comes on the heels of AAEM’s letter to the California Public Utilities Commission in January 2012.

Smart meter hacks likely to spread: FBI

Loved and loathed … The Victorian smart meter scheme has been
controversial. Miscreants are reprogramming meters to report less power
usage, for a fee.

A series of hacks perpetrated against so-called “smart meter” installations
over the past several years may have cost a single electric company
hundreds of millions of dollars annually, the FBI said in a cyber
intelligence bulletin obtained by KrebsOnSecurity.

The US law enforcement agency said this was the first known report of
criminals compromising the hi-tech meters, and that it expected this type
of fraud to spread across the country as more utilities deploy smart grid
technology.

Smart meters are intended to improve efficiency, reliability, and allow the
electric utility to charge different rates for electricity at different
times of day. Smart grid technology also holds the promise of improving a
utility’s ability to remotely read meters to determine electric usage.

But it appears that some of these meters are smarter than others in their
ability to deter hackers and block unauthorised modifications. The FBI
warns that insiders and individuals with only a moderate level of computer
knowledge are likely able to compromise meters with low-cost tools and
software readily available on the internet.

Germany: Shielding Against Radio Frequency Radiation is Tax Deductible

Expenses for the shielding of a condominium against radio frequency radiation (RF) can be deducted from the income tax as exceptional expenditures. The 10th Senate of the Finance Court in Cologne issued this decision on 8 March 2012 (10 K 290/11).

In her income tax return, the plaintiff claimed expenses of 17,075 euros for the installation of RF radiation shielding to protect herself against radio frequency broadcast, TV, and mobile phone radiation. The revenue office declined the deduction of these expenses.

The 10th Senate of the Finance Court in Cologne took another view and allowed the deduction as medical expenditures. Necessary, and thus tax deductible, are not only medically inevitable expenditures within the meaning of minimum provisions, but rather expenditures of any diagnostic or therapeutic treatments whose application is sufficiently justified in the case of disease. To prove that the installation of the shielding was necessary, the Court was satisfied with a certificate by a medical doctor in private practice regarding the plaintiff’s advanced electromagnetic hypersensitivity, and an expert report by a building biology engineer about the RF radiation exposure levels of “considerable concern” within the completed building envelope of the condominium.

According to the Senate’s ruling, no appeal against its decision can be filed with the Federal Finance Court.

The Senate of the Finance Court in Cologne recognises the existence of electromagnetic hypersensitivity – what will it take Victorian power distributers and the Victorian Government to recognise this condition?

Government amps up its spin on smart meter roll out

The Department of Primary Industries’ latest advertisements on radio and in major and local Victorian newspapers appears to be scraping the bottom of the barrel in its attempt to ‘sell’ smart meters to Victorians.

In an advertising blitz estimated to cost hundreds of thousands of our taxpayers’ dollars, it is obvious that consumer resistance to smart meters is causing problems for the Baillieu Government.

Stating that ‘the greatest benefits to consumers will be delivered if the roll out continues” conveniently glosses over a number of issues. Deloitte, the latest firm to undertake a cost benefit analysis on behalf of the government, concluded in August of last year that the roll out of smart meters will now result in an overall net COST to consumers of $319 million dollars.  Earlier studies at least had a net benefit in their sights.  Less than half way through the roll out, the cost has now blown out by almost $2.5 billion, and is still rising!  In January 2012 alone, the power companies won court cases allowing them to add another $300,000,000 to the customers’ bills over the next couple of years.

The only way Deloitte was able to conjure up a net benefit to consumers if the roll out continued was by ignoring the massive costs that had already been sunk into the project (which we’ve all been paying for since the beginning of 2010).  But the analysis was only geared at identifying costs and benefits to electricity customers, stating that most of the other costs associated with the roll out are passed on to taxpayers.  Duuh…aren’t electricity customers also taxpayers?

In addition, how much tax-funded money actually has been budgeted to provide us with expensive glossy flyers and newsprint advertising packed with deceptive statements?  What would the supposed net benefit of continuing with the roll out be for consumers if these costs were included?  And nowhere in the ‘costs’ to consumers has any provision been made for adverse health outcomes.

And what exactly are these wondrous benefits the advertisements pronounce that are going to benefit consumers?  Why, goodness gracious, the government is going to use taxpayers’ money to provide us with subsidies so we can purchase in-home displays.  And what exactly do ‘in-home displays’ do, besides zapping microwaves between household appliances and the in-home display, so we can better irradiate ourselves and our neighbours in the privacy of our own homes?  They enable us to more precisely track our energy use when we run our fridges, washing machines and TVs.

Does the government really imagine that we are so stupid that we haven’t made the connection between switching on appliances and our resulting electricity bill?

And whoop-de-doo, the ‘major’ changes are also going to include tighter energy cost controls.  Exactly how is the government going to control the growing costs to the community of what appears to be an escalating health crisis?  Unfortunately the health standards which the government so reassuringly advises us are being met are ten years old and viewed by a number of scientists as obsolete.  And the question arises, why weren’t health issues included in the review?  Was the Government afraid of the outcome?

The Victorian Auditor-General’s recommendations (made in 2009) pointed to “emerging risks”. Exactly how does completely ignoring the emerging risks of radio frequency radiation on Victorians lead to accurate financial figures?  And how does ignoring government, taxpayer-funded costs of the smart meter roll out lead to accurate figures?  And how does sweeping aside consumers’ concerns with sham investigations address consumer issues?

All we hear is silence….

When will they get it, we are refusing to have a smart meter installed!

If you receive a reply from your first letter of No consent to install, it will probably have strong words and contracts, codes etc listed re Meter Ownership, the Power Distributors entitlement to access your property etc, and a paragraph suggesting you raise any further concerns re the Victorian Government policy to the Dept of Primary Industries , DPI. So, many people are then sending the Prohibition of undue harassment letter to the Power Distributor and also sending a letter to the DPI and their Member of Parliament, saying that No matter how many times it is stated that Smart Meters are safe, WE DO NOT BELIEVE THEY ARE.

  • WHO SAYS ARPANSA and other Australian standards being used are right AND ALL THE OTHER REPORTS ARE WRONG.
  • WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO TELL US WHAT WE CAN AND CANNOT BELIEVE? HOW DARE YOU?
  • I TOTALLY REFUSE AND DO NOT CONSENT TO HAVE A SMART METER INSTALLED.

AUSTRALIA IS A FREE AND DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY AND YOU SHOULD BE HONOURING OUR HUMAN AND DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS. WE WILL STAND UP FOR THEM.

Go here for actions you can take: I understand that Contract law requires CONSENT

Couple forced to sleep in their car because of electricity meter health fears | Herald Sun

Trudeau

A MELBOURNE couple who have slept in their car for almost six months say they have been forced from their home because of debilitating health problems suffered since the installation of their new electricity meter.

But, as the State Government stands by the controversial electricity monitoring devices, reports continue to emerge linking smart meters with new health scares including heart palpitations, chest pains, dizziness and lethargy.

Rosemary and Vic Trudeau said they had abandoned their Mt Eliza home of 22 years since the device was installed in October, causing them nausea, chest pains, tinnitus and insomnia.

“Scientists are saying we have to reduce our exposure to radio frequencies and now they’re putting them on our houses,” Ms Trudeau said.

“I’ve had two people from (energy company) Jemena admit to me that about 5-6 per cent of the population are very sensitive to radio frequency, but if you are it’s just bad luck.”

After five months of fighting, Jemena last week agreed to replace the device.

A spokeswoman for Energy Minister Michael O’Brien said a government-commissioned review had found the meters were safe.

There’s no law that smart meters are compulsory – Bendigo Advertiser

Many people believe that they are compelled by Victorian state law to allow smart meters to be installed in their homes.

There is no such law.

Victorian state law makes it compulsory for the five electricity distributors to “use their best endeavours” to install meters in every household and business by the end of 2013.

There is no law that forces the customer to accept the meters.
