Following numerous requests dating back from early December 2011 to meet with Hon. Michael O’Brien, Minister for Energy and Resources, representatives from community groups throughout Victoria have yet to receive any response and, in light of recent smart meter explosions, have organised a delegation to visit his electoral office to personally deliver a copy of the letter to which Minister O’Brien has refused to respond.
The delegation will visit Mr O’Brien’s electoral Office on:
Friday 2nd March, 2012
11:00 am,
313-315 Waverly Rd, Malvern East
Interested persons are invited to be part of this delegation tomorrow morning.
Section 46D of the Electricity Act 2000 and the Victorian Government Gazette No. S200 dated 28th August 2007, electricity companies are mandated by the Governor in Council Order published in this Government Gazette “to use their best endeavours” to install smart meters. The mandate is not on the public, but is pertaining to the electricity companies to use their best endeavours to get the smart meters installed.
According to this Order in Council, it is clear that there is no legislation provision that imposes smart meters on customers. Therefore, there is no lawful obligation for consumers to accept the installation of smart meters.
Thank you to all those who attended, I wish I could have been there.
