Updated BioInitiative Report reviews over 1800 new scientific studies

The BioInitiative 2012 Report updates five years of science, public health, public policy and global response to the growing health issue of chronic exposure to electromagnetic fields and radiofrequency radiation in the daily life of billions of people around the world.

The new report by the BioInitiative Working Group 2012 says that evidence for risks to health has substantially increased since 2007 from electromagnetic fields and wireless technologies (radiofrequency radiation). The Report reviews over 1800 new scientific studies. The BioInitiative 2012 Report has been prepared by 29 authors from ten countries, ten holding medical degrees (MDs), 21 PhDs, and three MsC, MA or MPHs. Among the authors are three former presidents of the Bioelectromagnetics Society, and five full members of BEMS. One distinguished author is the Chair of the Russian National Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation. Another is a Senior Advisor to the European Environmental Agency. As in 2007, each author is responsible for their own chapter.

The great strength of the BioInitiative Report (www.bioinitiative.org) is that it has been done independent of governments, existing bodies and industry professional societies that have clung to old standards. Precisely because of this, the BioInitiative Report presents a solid scientific and public health policy assessment that is evidence-based.

The report covers EMF from powerlines, electrical wiring, appliances and hand-held devices; and from wireless technologies (cell and cordless phones, cell towers, smart meters, WI-FI, wireless laptops, wireless routers, baby monitors, and other electronic devices).  Health topics include damage to DNA and genes, effects on memory, learning, behavior, attention, sleep disruption, cancer and neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s disease.   New safety standards are urgently needed for protection against EMF and wireless exposures that now appear everywhere in daily life.

The BioInitiative 2012 Report is available at: www.bioinitiative.org.

Was this study reported anywhere on mainstream media? What’s happening with the World Health Organisation’s investigations into EMF? They put something out a few years ago to say mobile phones were “possibly carcinogenic” but no one seems to have taken much notice of this. Surely if EMF from phones are in this category then smart meters running 24 hours on your bedroom wall should be considered equally hazardous? I sent messages to the various current affairs programs on TV recently as I am desperate to stop the impending smart meter installation (set for my place from 21 January) but I have had no response of course. Supposedly Julia Gillard said we can say no but not according to the letters I’ve received from Jemena who still say its mandated by the Victorian Government

    • Eric says:

Alice, what’s been mandated is for the electrical companies such as Jemena to “use best endeavors” to install smart meters in everyone’s home…..that’s it. Those same companies under the auspicies of the Energy Minister Michael O’Brien will try and mislead you into thinking that you are breaking the law if you don’t consent to the installation. And if you allow yourself to be misled, guess what happens…….you open the door to them ie. consent is implied

Alice, do what everyone else on this website and around the world is doing. First and foremost organise to lock your meter box securely. Use an industrial padlock, hasp and staple, etc…. whatever mechanism. Get help if you need to. Some of us have become meter box security specialists. Then make sure you put up a sign (print it on your computer and get it laminated) on your meter box stating that smart meter installation is refused making sure it is signed and dated. You may want to cut out a slot in the door using perspex to make a window in that slot to facilitate reading of the existing meter whilst the meter box remains locked. Until you have done that, be home to deal with unwanted visits personally ie. tell installers where to go and if they don’t you take matters into your own hands very quickly….in your case ring the police….in my case perhaps more forceful means THEN, write a letter to Jemena stating clearly and FIRMLY your refusal and send copies to Energy Minister Michael O’Brien, Dept of Primary Industries, Installers (possibly Service Stream). If you want more names perhaps the Premier Baillieu and the Prime Minister as well….she should be continually reminded about the thuggery that is happening here in Victoria. And….DO IT QUICKLY. Remember, you have control over what goes on in your premises. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES allow yourself to become intimidated by the behaviour of the installers nor of anything that comes out of their mouths nor out of the mouth of Jemena in any of their deceptive letters

Alice there are links on this website that summarise all this information with signs you can print out, letter formats, mailing names and addresses of some of these people/stakeholders that I have mentioned

Petition signed. It certainly makes a lot of sense in this techno-crazy world to do more testing and monitor EMF/Radiation output of ALL sources of electromagnetic fields for the health & safety of everyone living/working/going to school etc, etc. Wifi is not beneficial to anyone and should never have been so widespread within the community – it just isn’t safe technology, nor are smart meters!

  3. Mark Shaw says:

(quote)The great strength of the BioInitiative Report (www.bioinitiative.org) is that it has been done independent of governments, (unquote)

This is why it will be unacceptable. Government funded studies are the only acceptable method for reviewing government policy because the results are predetermined.
Product and service suppliers that disrupt social, mental, health and financial norms find themselves in the same place the tobacco industry was a few decades ago.

They know they do harm but admitting it unravels the threads which hold all their profits.

    • Gwen says:

Exactly Mark. That’s why the Queensland and N.S.W. Premiers changed their minds about smart meters after P.M. explained the massive profits that would come their way if they joined Victoria and the rest of Australia giving the go ahead to install them.
Thanks stopsmartmeters for great information and updates. 🙂
