County of Santa Cruz: Smart Meter Moratorium

From the Public Health Division of the County of Santa Cruz:

The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors directed Dr Namkung, the Health Officer and Medical Director for the County of Santa Cruz, to complete an analysis of the research on the health effects of smart meters.  She found:

“Exposure is additive and consumers may have already increased their exposures to radio frequency radiation in the home through the voluntary use of wireless devices such as cell and cordless phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), routers for internet access, home security systems, wireless baby surveillance (baby monitors) and other emerging devices.  It would be impossible to know how close a consumer might be to their limit, making safety an uncertainty with the installation of a mandatory SmartMeter.”

“There are no current, relevant public safety standards for pulsed RF involving chronic exposure of the public, nor of sensitive populations, nor of people with metal and medical implants that can be affected both by localized heating and by electromagnetic interference (EMI) for medical wireless implanted devices.”

”There is no scientific data to determine if there is a safe RF exposure level regarding its non-thermal effects.”

Hi Yvonne, the Government is not going to provide us with any evidence of Smart Meters safety to our health as they do not have any, all I can advise is to keep opposing the installation, make waves, sent letters, make phone calls let your concerns be heard, contact the relevant Authorities, the longer we can stall the installations in our homes the better, the more people that stand up for their human rights makes us stronger, in the meantime more issues about safety, privacy and corporate greed are coming out, I believe we really have a chance to make a difference here.

  2. Yvonne says:

If the reason I don’t want a smart meter is because of the potential radiation – radio frequency radiation, is there hard core evidence to prove this when the electricity company says that the govenrment has said that they have a mandate to install? Do we ask for evidence that the smart meter doesn’t affect us or is it up to us to prove that it does?

  3. Ryan says:

Dr Namkung’s findings tell us no one can lie and claim these smart meters are safe to our health, and the proof is right there. How dare the Government force us to have these so called Smart Meters, there is so little information and research available, who knows in years to come what health problems we may have as a result.
