Inquiry into Sleep Health Awareness in Australia

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport has commenced an Inquiry into Sleep Health Awareness in Australia, following a referral from the Minister for Health, Aged Care and Sport, the Hon Greg Hunt MP.

It has been estimated that approximately 7.4 million Australians do not get enough sleep. Inadequate sleep can impact on a person’s health and wellbeing, and may also lead to a loss of workforce productivity.  Deloitte Access Economics assessed the health system costs associated with inadequate sleep to be approximately $1.8 billion in 2016-17.

The Committee Chair stated that “the Committee will examine the causes, [the] economic and social costs, and treatment of inadequate sleep and sleep disorders, in addition to education and training available to medical professionals regarding sleep health issues, and current research into sleep health”.

SSMA suspects that the MPs on this committee, along with most medical professionals, are unaware of the impact that pulsed radiofrequency emissions are having on Australians’ sleep.

A PubMed-listed, peer-reviewed study entitled Self-reporting of Symptom Development from Exposure to Radiofrequency Fields of Wireless Smart Meters in Victoria, Australia: A Case Series found that the most common symptom as a result of exposure to the pulsed radiofrequency fields from smart meters was insomnia.  Forty eight percent of the people in the 92-case study reported insomnia, sleep disturbance, or sleep disruption.

If emissions from smart meters, or other radiofrequency devices, have adversely affected your sleep, here is your chance to tell the committee about the cause, impact and cost (economic and social) of inadequate sleep on your life.

Submissions from individuals and organisations are invited by Thursday, 18 October 2018.  The preferred method is by electronic format lodged online using a My Parliament account.

Further information about this inquiry, including the full terms of reference and details on how to lodge a submission, are available here.

  1. Let's get real about RF says:

Fantastic to see so many of the submissions to this Inquiry brought up the horrible effects of not-so-smart meters and EMR on sleep: https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/House/Health_Aged_Care_and_Sport/SleepHealthAwareness/Submissions
The survey done by the author of Submission 32 was fascinating. And how dreadful to hear first-hand what happened to one of our Vets as a result of time served with the Royal Australian Corps of Signals (Submission 6). Looking through quickly, numbers 7, 27, 36, 37 and 61 all brought up smart meters.

My sleep has been disturbed for 6+ years at the installation of smartmeters

I submitted to the Inquiry—have you? Would you like a copy of my submission? ________________________________

Yep, I’ve got Sleep disorders from Smart Meters. Not just Insomnia just a few sleep disorders.
And lots of anxiety, tinnitus, and a few other problems.
The main problem I have is I don’t have a smart meter on my property. The problem is the neighbours smart meters are about 5 meters away from my lounge room.
Every house property in this area has at least 3 units on it so I have 3x the normal amount of smart meters so when they say 1 smart meter is bad how about having 3 5 meters away from where you are all the time. No wonder I’ve been in hospital for multiple health related problems and when I stay in hospital the problems go away on their own. I wonder why is that? Its so obvious to everyone except the government who forced these stupid meters on us.

Now we NEED to kick out this government and replace it with one that will listen and realise smart meters ARE BAD and start removing them. Watch the health problems all of a sudden disappear if that happens.
