they just want to rip everyone off and have control. I too have an asbestos and old style wiring board so they cannot install a smart meter. by 2029 I hope to close the account if not before then I should have battery power via power stations like eco flow some of them are 2000w and 3500w, the problem is you may have to re-charge them every week via lifo4 battery but it would be worth it to give these big companies the big A. they should make new old style meters and ban smart meters.

  2. Anonymous says:

Australians need to stand up to this rail raiding into smart meters and start a class action against all electrical providers. This is harassment and taking away your right as a consumer by an over reaching government.

    • Anonymous says:

they are really trying to force this. just an excuse to rip everyone off and control them. I too have an old style box with asbestos and the wrong wiring so they cannot put in a smart meter. I can stall them until 2029 and then maybe close the account and I think I will try to run my power by batteries in 2029. some of those power stations are 2000w and 3500w. the thing is you have to keep re-charging via dc to dc and battery lifo4 power maybe every week. still worth it to give those big companies the big A. they should re-issue the old style meters and stop smart meters-in fact ban them.

Another way what I will do is write a “Notice of Conditional Acceptance.” As with any contract, full disclosure and transparency is required, They fail this one so this voids any contract. If you own a home and not a unit you can dictate rent on your switchboard. Remember a contract is always negotiable! But electricity is “life support” in today’s world. $80000 per quarter rent for their meter is acceptable. Remember it is just business and we need to start thinking like they do.

  4. instantlykingdom5fcf0c7887 says:

The smart meter imposition by the AEMC has in my humble opinion, too many parallels with the truths about the “Covid/Covid mRNA vaccines” global scandal !!

  5. Anonymous says:

Can you use these signs though if you live in a block of units and the shared switch box is on common property?

The switch box is Body Corporate property but I cannot penetrate the cement heads at Red Energy that I am NOT responsible for upgrading it in order for them to install a smart meter.

Technically they might not be trespassing?

I just want them to stop sending BS manipulative letters about it. I actually want the switch box upgrade and would have considered a smart meter after the Qld laws are introduced in December 1st. 2025 to protect consumers against the ba..ds

Because of these letters and controlling patronizing lecture via phone they can wait until hell freezes over before I consent to a smart meter. At the moment they can’t install one due to the switch box wiring.

    • Anonymous says:

Lucky you, they are powerless to make you fix what they consider to be a defect at the metering installation. So they can’t install a smart meter.

The National Energy Retail Amendment (Accelerating smart meter deployment) Rule 2024 No.6 sets out the notice procedure (59AAA Notice procedure for defect at the metering installation).

All they can do is use words …which seems to be spectacularly backfiring.

Is there anything illegal about telling these companies to “F**K OFF” in bold in an email?. I have no patience left.

Ill send a ‘Cease and Desist’ first.

We are considering going ahead with installing a solar system – installation can happen on 2 September 2024. Apparently the Endeavour Energy will come and install a smart meter once they get that the work is done and installed. Once complete on 2 September all will be functioning with our present meter. Having an old Solar System it is already feeding into Diamond Energy who bill us. We will get some government monies with this package. Of course we do not want the Smart Meter – if we send in the letter to Endeavour Energy in the next few days and put up the signs can we prevent this smart meter happening and also could they prevent our installation or government monies because of this decision??

    Many thanks for your reply

If you’re in an area subject to Australia’s national electricity rules (it sounds like you are), then they will be insisting that you have to have a smart meter. It’s an absurd requirement.

Maybe you can get a non-transmitting one? But there’s still 24/7 dirty electricity (at least the dirty electricity from solar is only during the day), plus possible reading fees.

On the prohibition of undue harassment form is says to insert the company name and ACN from the letter provided by the company . Is it okay to send the Notice of prohibition to the retailers locked bag address? They won’t give me their land address.

    • Anonymous says:

It doesn’t look like you have any choice but to send it to the locked bag address.
It’s absurd how difficult it is to find physical addresses of businesses nowadays.

Google says this? I also don’t want a smart meter here in NSW. I got notification from AGL. If you live in New South Wales, Queensland, the ACT, Tasmania or South Australia, you can only refuse a smart meter if your current meter is still working properly and you didn’t waive your right to opt out of getting a smart meter when you signed your electricity contract.23 Jan 2023. Please help us all. Prayers.

We are on the Gold Coast and they are saying the same thing to us. The are telling us we signed a contract. We have asked for that signed contract and they are refusing. I have signs up and have sent off letter and emails to say we do not consent. They keep pushing us. obviously i am going to refuse all day long but do they have the right to just change it?? my dad doesnt want to put a lock on the box. i told him that i would install a window and put a lock and he doesnt want to. He is 90 years old and this is stressful for him.

      • Anonymous says:

Insist on seeing the contract!! Tell them you’ll go to the Energy and Water Ombudsman if they don’t provide it.

      • Anonymous says:

I sympathize. The Body Corporate won’t vote for a new switch box. They hound me to install a new switch box for all the owners and a smart meter.

I’ve explained, refused for three years now. I’m 71 yrs old and want to physically assault the b..ds.

        This bullying has to stop!!

      • Anonymous says:

Do you need to sign a contract for them to put one in if so I signed nothing.

    • Anonymous says:

Place alfoil around the smart metre to cover its face entirely and place the shiny side of the alfoil onto the meter. This significantly reduces the EMF attacks on your hormonal system and body.

      • Anonymous says:

You need to make sure you know what sort of communications network is used for your smart meter before attempting this!! You also should have a radiofrequency meter so you can see what you’re doing.

Do NOT try this with a smart meter that uses 4G communications. You could make your situation much worse (unlike in a mesh network). Where there is very poor signal, polling increases. End result, more radiation.

Plus, if you’re doing this in a mesh network and completely shield the antenna, questions will be asked if communications stop.

Hey I was with AGL for years until I heard about these Smart meters I had no idea but I checked my Electricity box and bang there it was with out my consent. I rang AGL I Argued and Argued with them for weeks it was hooked up to my Wifi also they came out and disconnected it so I still have a bloke come out and read my meter.

  12. NoSmartMeters says:

Is there one for water meter? And how to attach it? As the water meter is an odd shape.

  13. Anna says:

Stop Smart Meters Australia – any updates on the legality of the letters you’ve provided? I have Enova insisting that Essential Energy has stated an issue in 2017 requires my meter to be replaced.

  14. Jane says:

OK. I am having problems with Western Power again. Despite declining a new meter 4 times (once via Registered Post) they are still pressuring me. I have been told that I must have my meter changed but they can omit the communications card and it will be safe. I dont understand this. Is it true? Can someone explain this to me please?
    Jane

    • Cathy says:

If the communications card isn’t there then that means there won’t be any pulsed microwave radiation. (Or as Western Power likes to refer to it, as it sounds so much less harmful, “radiofrequency communications technology”.) So all good.
But having said that, some people have problems even with digital non-communicating meters, because of the dirty electricity that they produce. (Lots of things do this, these days.)

      • Lara Saveka says:

Place alfoil with the shiney side on the face of the smart metre and as far as you can around the sides of the metre. This will significanlty reduce the EMF attacks on your body and hormonal glands. I had a rash on my hormonal glands appear within a week of the installation and as soon as I placed the alfoil on the metres the inflamation stopped immediately. We all hold the soverign free will right to defend ourselves and to self protect when we are being send EMF weapons attacks from electronic devices. So it is.

        Light speeds to you all.

        Lara.

        • Anonymous says:

Careful, this could actually create even more radiation if you’re in a 4G smart meter network!

You’ll need a radiofrequency meter to see what it actually does.

Where there is very poor signal in a 4G network, polling increases. End result, more radiation. (Mesh smart meter networks work differently.)

        • Anonymous says:

Will that cause fire the foil

          • Anonymous says:

If your smart meter is mesh networked then it will stop talking to the other meters if you manage to shield the whole antenna, eg by covering the whole antenna if it’s an external one or also shielding the back of the meter if it’s internal.

It will spring back into life when you take the alfoil off.

We used this principle once when we stayed at a lovely cottage in a complex that had WiFi at each cottage. Although they had placed us in the cottage that was the furthest from the router there was an antenna at our cottage that was constantly pulsing. The antenna had been placed on the external wall of the bedroom, of all places, next to where one was sleeping. (How dumb is that.) The manager offered to enclose the antenna with alfoil. Voila, my RF meter showed that the pulsing had stopped.

It returned to its normal microwave pulsating state when the alfoil was removed when we were leaving.

    • Anonymous says:

hello Jane, do you have any updates of what’s happening with Smart meters in WA?

I rang Western Power 1 year ago and asked the Q. We don’t want our meter replaced with a smart meter.

The guy had to check with his superior. He came back and said. You’ll have to have it installed when they roll them out but then you can get it just disconnected after it’s installed.

I’ll have to see what the latest is.

      Cheers

      Marisa

    • Anonymous says:

Don’t do it. Whether it has a transmitter or not that is not the main reason energy companies are trying to change your meter (although it saves them money on hiring a reader)). It’s because they can legally increase your electricity rates and you have no say in the matter. Most electricity contracts state they any replacement of the meter or modification to the system allows them to renegotiate the electricity prices and feed-in tariff. Before I had refused and cancelled the new meter installation they had sent an email showing the “new” proposed electricity prices. It was far more expensive and they also slash any decent feed-in tariff you might still have been entitled to.

I rang Synergy and Western Power and both said the builders electrical engineer would have to put a request in on my behalf for an Analogue Meter.
When the builders rang Western Power they told them to ring Synergy so they did and the answer to my request to having an Analogue Meter was refused.
Now I am not sure what I can do next so I am hoping someone can give me some advice.

  16. Sam T says:

I already have a smart meter installed on my home as i wasn’t told anything about my meter when we built our home a little over a year ago. Recently we had a power issue in the estate where most houses lost power and i have noticed my meter was affected because my bill was an estimate and now they have sent me a message asking if i agree to them coming to fix or replace the the meter between the 23-4-19 to 26-4-19. I want it replaced with an old style meter as i have been really ill since living here as have my wife and kids. Is there anything i can do to get them to install an old style meter? I read the rulings but i wasn’t sure if it applied to meters already installed or not. Can anyone help please?

    • Cathy says:

Hopefully, you’ve managed to hold them off for the moment! I think that you have zilch chance of getting it replaced with an analogue meter unless you live in WA or the NT. (And even there, it would likely be an uphill battle.) If you live elsewhere, and not in Victoria, at least they can replace it with a non-communicating meter if you need a new one. (Or get them to deactivate the communications if they’re able to fix it …possibly they will say that this can’t be done until 1 July, when the new rule amendment starts??) Having the remote communications switched off should be a big improvement as that means no more microwaves. There’s still a possible problem with dirty electricity. Plus they can bill you for having to come out to read the meter, if they want to! (It might be a good idea to check out plans with other electricity retailers to find one that doesn’t charge for this …try Origin.)

      • meow says:

why not get an electrician to install an analog meter, buy a new analog meter and get it installed. the argument they use is that your old meter ‘isnt safe’ etc. but if you have a new one installed by a verified electrician… then they can either come read it or you can change companies.

You absolutely right. unfortunately in this country people don’t understand what the real agenda is behind all this. If they take the time and connect the dots they will be shocked. But they are kept busy by the fake news and the corrupt media and politicians. They are giving the illusion of freedom. They think by voting for someone is going to change things.
It does not matter who you vote for ITS THE SAME AGENDA.

  19. Toni says:

    Let’s start a class action…………

I’ve refused smart meters for some time now. Ausnet and Select solutions turned up at the property and refused all demands that no smart meter be fitted on private property. They instead ignored all my legal rights and requests, and proceeded to rip out my meters and fit theirs. (I have a perfectly working sub station so it was not needed at all)
Harassment and bullying at its best.

Paul Hoult at Ausnet claims they won’t remove them. In a nutshell, he tried to make void any of my legal rights, and totally ignored what they did wrong LEGALLY in the first place by removing, without my consent, perfectly working meters in a sub power station for unwanted smart meters.

Anyone interested in a class action? Contact admin to message me.

Yes a Class Action would be the way to go as their profits are wired straight to their heart and brain.

What really needs to be done now, by someone with legal knowledge, is a petition (change.org or the like) to the “Energy Minister” for every State and Territory Government and the Federal Government in Australia to let them know we are awake and not interested in “Smart Meters”.

      I am not legally knowledgeable.
I am politically aware and all done at the same time and press release of their existence could be a game changer.

      • Christina Noth says:

Yes I agree they have to be stopped.
I my case is, they come and read the meter and write different numbers on our bill. Energex told us that we are not using enough power so they adjusting it. Since beginning of the year we are fighting to stop them to put a “Smart Meter” on to our bedroom wall.

Be proactive and send them a letter (and do everything else you can think of, as well!). The horse has usually bolted if everybody just waits until their provider comes up with a plan of action (which most probably won’t be to the liking of anybody with some nous).

  21. Jeff says:

    Hi,
I haven’t read this on your site, but it’s something a property lawyer once told me in relation to a bollard council wanted to install on my nature-strip. Apparently under Australian Property Law there is wording to the affect of ” No other person can install anything on a property that negatively affects the value of said property”. Does anyone have a link to that law/clause? With all the negative feedback on smart meters, having one fitted to your property, would mean less people would want to purchase your house and therefore quite possibly mean your property is worth less”.

  23. Trouble is, that all the radiation comes out the back, now – right into your home. Have you measured there?

    • meow says:

it probably uses internet over power lines as a node too… and wire taps your whole house using your internal wiring as an antenna. it is a control box that can modulate your whole houses RF… sooooo…. probably a good idea to keep it analog unless you believe they have good anti hacking protocols in these cheaply made boxes shipped over with chipsets from china that who knows what backends are built in.

Find an “A grade Electrician who is prepared to buy and install a Safe and Passive Analog Electric Meter for you in your brand new home.

Realise this…..It is not the LAW that you have to have a dopey and deadly to your health and welfare Type 2B Carcinogen Causing Microwave ‘Smart Arsed Meter.’ These so-called smart meters can turn out to be Incendiary Devices. For proof of this, look up Northcote Fire after dopey so-called smart meter installed. Look up Haddon Dentists two so-called smart meters blew up and damaged two separate surgeries out of four total surgeries in large dental complex in Glenroy, a Western Melbourne suburb. These were put in by Jemena.

Dentistry owner finally got the Safe and Passive Analog Electric Meter reinstalled and no more problems. She will now have to get compensation from Jemena either through Court Action or out of Court.
