As one power company told us, “This is not public knowledge but, even though you may have a smart meter already installed it is very likely that it is not yet activated. In other words it is not transmitting. The meters are not due to be activated until the roll out is complete which is scheduled for the end of 2013. Until then all meters will continue to be manually read!!”
BUT according to the power company some meters are being randomly activated right now for testing purposes. But only in those areas where the required communications infrastructure is in place.
So you may have had your meter installed for some time and have found no issues with it in regards to:
-
Your bills increasing (in some cases 50 – 200%)
-
Family members complaining of headaches and ringing in the ears
-
plants around the meters wilting and dying
